Black Orpheus (Manhã De Carnaval) – Luiz Bonfa – Includes Partial Tab – Classical Guitar Arrangement

Black Orpheus Performed by Robert Lunn

This is one of my favorite songs and works well as solo guitar piece, song with vocals and in a big band setting. The music was composed by the Brazilian composer, Luiz Bonfá. One interesting factoid is that the song is known by different names depending on where you live in the world including, Black Orpheus, Theme from Black Orpheus, Manhã de Carnaval, La Chanson d’Orphée, A Day in the Life of a Fool, and Carnival.

Manhã de Carnaval (Black Orpheus)

Manhã de Carnaval performed by Rob Lunn

Manhã de Carnaval, by Luis Bonfa is a favorite of mine. I first heard it played by the guitarist, Baden Powell:

I run a jazz band at Lake Michigan College and this past year we played a version of it for jazz band which was a lot of fun. This is not my jazz band but is a fun performance:

In this recording I am reading from a lead sheet.
