Lament III

Last year (and the year before) I composed 12 laments for the classical guitar. The score/tabs for these can be found on my website for FREE.

I am excited about one thing. Ok, maybe a few things. It is super cold in Michigan (where I live) so that is nothing to be excited about. Anyways…I’ve always avoided making arrangements of copyrighted songs because I didn’t want to deal with the licensing issues involved. Long story short (thank you, Rob), I am going to start arranging copyrighted music. I made a list of pieces I would like to arrange. Here they are:

The Godfather (Love Theme), Nothing Else Matters, Hurt (Nine Inch Nails), Pirates of the Caribbean, Imagine, Stairway to Heaven, Hallelujah, Dust in the Wind, The Mission (Oboe Theme), Chariots of Fire, Schindler’s List, and so on and so on. There are like 200 on this list.

Anyways…that’s all I’ve got for now.

Lament I

Over the last couple of years I composed 12 laments for guitar. I recorded them this past summer…

You can listen to them by clicking on the album cover above. The score/tab is available for free at my website.

Side note…last week we got 18 inches of snow where I live in Michigan. That alone makes me want to compose laments. There are still leaves on the trees!! To make matters worse, Facebook reminded me that I had played golf on this day two years ago. I am just hoping to play one more round of golf before 2019 is over. Chances are slim…

Three New Albums!!

I’ve been a busy bee since school got out in early May. I have recorded 3 albums. For two of those albums I had to write a lot of music. For one, I just had to talk. None of them are available on iTunes or Spotify yet. Probably available in another week. You can currently listen to them on my Bandcamp site.

Over the last couple of years I have been writing a group of laments for the guitar. They started out as short, one-minute pieces. Over the last couple of months I have been expanding them into actual pieces of music. Scores/tabs are available here.

I get asked a lot of questions from people. How long have you played the guitar? Where are you from? Who influenced you? So I decided to record a spoken word album where I talk about those things. It is called, The Business of Being Rob.

Finally, I love messing with effects so I put together an album of guitar pieces that uses all kinds of different effects. There are a few songs on this album that don’t contain effects, but for the most part, this is an effects driven album called, Broken Glass.

Lament VIII (Ending)

Here is the ending of my 8th Lament. Last year I composed rough drafts of twelve laments. I am currently going through and expanding them. I am currently through eight of them.

This one uses tapping with the right hand to play the bass part. Tapping is fun and is easier to get a good sound on an electric guitar than a classical. When you tap the bass strings on a classical there is a lot of noise. If you tap on the upper three strings it’s tough to get a loud enough sound. Here is the score for this section…

Tapping is an example of extended techniques. Extended techniques are just techniques to create sound on an instrument in an unorthodox way. I wrote a paper on it back in school. You can find that as well as a couple videos on my website.

Now on to Buckethead….

I ended up going to Cincinnati last week to see my second Buckethead concert in the last month. It was AMAZING. Here are a couple pics…

I am also through the 16th Pike
