Wayfaring Stranger is a beautiful American folk song that first appeared in the early 1800s. Many artists over the years have covered this song including Emmylou Harris and Jack White.
Shenandoah is an old folk song that first appeared during the early 1800s. Over the years it has had a variety of different lyrics written to the melody. One common thread is they all refer to the Missouri River.
Jesu, Joy of Man’s Desiring was composed by J.S. Bach in 1723 and it comes from the Herz und Mund und Tat und Leben, BWV 147. I tried to make this arrangement as easy as possible. You commonly hear this song in weddings, Christmas and Easter services.
El Condor Pasa was composed by the Peruvian composer Daniel Alomia Robles in 1913. Simon and Garfunkel did an arrangement of this melody on their 1970 album, Bridge Over Troubled Water, which they called, El Condor Pasa (If I Could).
Fernando Sor was a great Spanish guitarist and composer who lived from 1778-1839. He composed a variety of music for the guitar ranging from beginner to concert-level pieces. This waltz is one of my favorite pieces of his to play.
Jingle Bells was composed by James Lord Pierpont in 1857 and was originally composed as a drinking song with no connection to Christmas. It was until 20 to 30 years later did it start to be sung as a Christmas song.
Here is my arrangement of Over the Rainbow, the famous song in the 1939 movie, The Wizard of Oz. The song was composed by Harold Arlen and Yip Harburg. Of course, it was sung by Dorothy (Judy Garland). I had a huge crush on Dorothy when I first saw this in elementary school!
